An investigation has been ordered into allegations that a police officer was bribed in the case of Leisure Clothing.

Earlier this week the police arrested the director of the Chinese-owned clothing firm as part of an investigation into exploitation of workers and human trafficking.

The factory employs just under 300 Chinese nationals who were allegedly attracted to Malta with a promise of high wages.

Acting Police Commissioner Ray Zammit said the allegations of bribery were being taken very seriously and he would not tolerate any actions by an officer which could put the force in a bad light.

He appealed for information which could help the police in the investigation.
