Road works on the Pieta Bus Priority Project are, when possible, also continuing at night, Transport Malta said.

It said in a statement these works had progressed significantly and were now entering a particularly sensitive stage.

TM said that in a bid to alleviate traffic congestion and avoid temporary road closures during peak hours, when possible, road works were continuing at night.

“Such a measure is aimed at alleviating traffic congestions and disruptions during particular phases of the works such as asphalting, which works necessitate partial road closure. Lower traffic volumes at night facilitate road side works without any major negative impacts on the community.”

TM said road works in Msida this weekend are scheduled as follows:

•             today from 8pm until early Saturday morning  - scarifying and asphalting works at ix-Xatt tal-Imsida near monument.

Ix-Xatt tal-Imsida (the part leading to Birkirkara and the part leading to Hamrun centre/Residential Home for the Elderly will be temporarily closed for vehicular traffic during works. Vehicular Traffic to Birkirkara Bypass will not be affected.

•             tomorrow during the day and on Sunday from 8pm until early Monday morning - scarifying and asphalting works at ix-Xatt tal-Imsida. There will be no access from Birkirkara By-Pass/Scatepark towards ix-Xatt ta’ l-Imsida. Vehicular traffic will be diverted towards Triq it-Torri, Msida. Vehicular Traffic to Birkirkara Bypass will not be affected.

No works are scheduled for Saturday night and Sunday morning.

TM said it was making every effort to ensure that, where possible, road works at arterial and distributor roads were carried out at times which would not disrupt the traffic flow.

Nevertheless, temporary redirection might be necessary and there could be delays in some cases. Minor road side works and interventions were also being carried out at night on weekends.
